Is there a cost for the consultation visit?

How does Intense Pulsed Light work?
Our Palomar StarLux system uses specialized handpieces which filter light from different parts of the spectrum. Each band of the spectrum has a wavelength that is ideal for different treatments, such as sunspot, hair and spider vein removal. The handpieces emit pulses of light into the skin. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the target area and the blood in visible vessels, and converted to heat. The heat dissolves the cells that created the pigment and shrinks the vessels.
How is Intense Pulsed Light different from a laser?
Pulsed light systems and lasers are very similar, but Palomar Pulsed Light Systems use a much larger treatment window than most lasers. This spreads light over a wider area of skin and allows faster coverage of the skin and quicker treatments as a result.
What body areas can I get treated?
Any area, except directly around the eyes. The face, neck, chest, arms, back, and legs can all be treated.
What body areas can I get treated for hair reduction?
Any area, except around the eyes. The upper lip, face, neck, underarms, bikini line, legs, chest and back can all be treated.
What are Intense Pulsed Light treatments like?
Your treatment provider will move the handpiece over your skin, pulsing it all the while. Each pulse will send a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the handpiece is being pulsed.
What should I expect after treatment?
Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling. This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with gel for cooling or ice packs.
Typically, several treatments will be necessary to achieve complete clearance of sunspots, rosacea, vessels, and hair.
How does the laser leg treatment work?
Lasers deliver concentrated light in a specific wavelength of the spectrum. Each wavelength is absorbed by a different target, such as pigment, blood, or water. The Palomar Lux 1064 handpiece delivers light pulses in the 1064 nm wavelength, which is ideal for targeting leg veins. The light pulses heat the blood within the leg vein. The heat of the blood affects the vessel lining, which causes the vessel to constrict and eventually fade from view. The Lux 1064 can also be used on facial veins.
Are these treatments safe? Are they painful?
Your treatment provider will go over the risks and benefits of treatment with you. Palomar leg vein treatments are skin-safe and comfortable. The Lux 1064 delivers its energy in one smooth, gentle pulse, to protect the skin from a sharp rise in temperature. In addition, a chilled water supply runs through the Lux 1064 handpiece, down to its tip. Since the handpiece tip is in contact with the skin during treatment, your skin is continually cooled, so that you feel little heat from the laser pulses.
Will I have to wear compressive stockings after treatment?
Yes, compressive stockings will be ordered by your physician after laser leg vein clearance. Although, the duration of time will be much less than if you had surgical leg vein clearance.
What is the Thermage procedure?
The Thermage procedure is a non-invasive treatment that results in tighter skin, renewed facial contours and healthier collagen. The incision-free procedure is fast and easy, and requires no downtime from normal activities. The procedure can be performed on patients of all skin types.
How does Thermage work?
Thermage uses the ThermaCool system with a sophisticated treatment tip called the ThermaTip™, which delivers a controlled amount of radiofrequency (RF) energy. With each touch to the skin, the ThermaTip device uniformly heats a large volume of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin and its underlying tissue while simultaneously protecting the outer layer of the skin with cooling. This deep uniform heating action causes deep structures in your skin to immediately tighten. Over time, new and remodeled collagen is produced to further tighten skin, resulting in healthier, smoother skin and a more youthful appearance.
What does the Thermage procedure feel like?
With each touch of the ThermaTip device, you will experience a brief, deep heating sensation as the RF energy is delivered to your skin and underlying tissue. This deep heating sensation is your indication that your collagen is reaching effective temperatures for tightening. The physician controls the amount of energy delivered to balance procedural comfort with maximal results. The ThermaTip device is cooled before, during, and after heating to protect your skin and make the treatment more comfortable. Your physician may prescribe relaxants and/or pain medication.
How long does it take?
The Thermage procedure can take anywhere from 30-90 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
What will my skin feel like after the procedure?
Immediately following a Thermage procedure, your skin should feel tighter, smoother and more youthful. Over time, you will notice additional tightening.
How many treatments will I need?
A single Thermage treatment has produced results in the majority of patients. Your physician will determine the course of treatment that is right for you.
When will I see results?
Recently published studies conducted by Thermage show that measurable tightening improvements appear gradually over 2 to 6 months after a single treatment session. However, many patients have reported seeing an even earlier response.
How long will the effects of the Thermage procedure last?
The Thermage procedure causes immediate tightening of the collagen structure, with additional tightening over time. Unpublished reports by experienced cosmetic physicians indicate that results may last 2-4 years or longer based on the patient’s natural aging process.
How long before I can return to my normal activities?
Most people return to their regular activities immediately following the Thermage procedure. Some people experience mild redness (like a sunburn), but it usually disappears quickly. No special care is needed after treatment unless otherwise instructed by your physician.
